LALLA MELODA is an exclusive collection of handwoven Berber rugs crafted by women from rural communities in Morocco, carefully selected by us.
The Beni Ouarain rug comes directly from the mountainous regions of Morocco in the Middle Atlas. Made by Berber women from the Aït Ouaraïn tribes, it is a Berber rug woven from natural wool that is both soft and thick.
Around 17 Berber tribes inhabit the mountains of the Middle Atlas and the Rif mountains of Morocco, raising sheep that provide the essential and high-quality wool for rug production.
The Berber populations of this region had little contact with the outside world. Isolated in the mountains, they remained entrenched in their traditions for a long time. This is why Beni Ouarain rugs have remained unchanged and preserved their originality. This explains their archaic appearance, with decorations based on simple geometric figures.
Moreover, as winters in this region of Morocco are quite harsh, the Beni Ouarain, who lived in authentic Berber tents, had no choice but to weave thick wool rugs to insulate and warm their tents.
The Beni Ouarain Moroccan rug is therefore a thicker indoor rug, 100% made of sheep wool.
You will find the classic black-and-white geometric diamond patterns, but we also offer other Berber designs, such as polka dots and transparent lines.
Care Instructions for Your Beni Ouarain Berber Rug:
You can brush it occasionally and vacuum it.
In case of stains, clean quickly with lukewarm water and Marseille soap.
